The Wheatsheaf Inn

ANY VISIT TO AYRSHIRE should include a trip to the picturesque village of Symington. It lies close to the county's great golfing area, with no fewer than 6 golf courses within a few miles of each other. Amongst them sit the famous Royal Troon Championship Course and many leading players on the course such as Seve Ballasteros have made their way to Symington to enjoy the excellent fayre on offer at The Wheatsheaf Inn. Other celebrity visitors who have experienced its internationally renowned food and service include Tom Lehman, Craig Brown and Colin Montgomery.

The inn is a charming 17th Century building with a wonderful olde-worlde atmosphere. A hostelry has been here since the 1500s and in the days of stage coaches the inn was an important posting stage. For the last 20 years it has been run by the father, son and daughter team of Milton, Martin and Marnie Thompson who offer their customers and extensive menu of dishes prepared with care and imagination. A typical menu lists more than a dozen starters, (how about Haggis, Neeps & Tatties in Drambuie and Onion Cream?), a wide choice of fish, meat poultry and vegetarian dishes, and a large selection of home made sweets. An outstanding choice of wines is available to complement your meal. In good weather, you can enjoy your meal in the superb beer garden which is also the only one for miles around.

Our Sunday service is held at 09.30am. All visitors are made most welcome.
